SHOW AWARDS FOR SADDLEBRED HORSES (SASH)

This is our most prestigious award and culminates in the title of "Champion" and the ability to use the CH prefix before your Saddlebred's name. It was adapted from the ASHA of Australia's SASH Awards (with permission of course!) and is based on accumulative performance points.

Bronze level is obtained on reaching 1,000 points Silver level upon reaching 2,500 points and Gold Level upon reaching 5,000 points and with it Championship status for your horse.

Sounds easy? Well, technically it is, except a win in a average class will earn you 20 points - that is where the hard work and achievement comes in: this award really is an honour and a credit to all those hard working Saddlebreds!

The first Saddlebred to achieve 5,000 points and Championship status was CH Celtic Champagne owned by Lynn Jarvis and trained by Excel Stables (see photo below, courtesy of Horse magazine). This mare achieved her award at the end of the 2002 show season and was presented with her SASH at the 2003 American Breeds Show. Following hot on her heels was the 50% partbred mare, CH Appledore Miss Serenade, owned by Dorothy Hasty, who achieved her championship status during the 2003 season. (See photo below). Dorothy was presented with Serenade's SASH at the 2003 AGM, as Serenade was due to foal in 2004 and so her award wasn't at our Championship Show, where we normally present these awards. CH Craycombe Golden Sandpiper became the third Saddlebred to achieve championship status in 2004, owned by Jennie Childs. He is a 50% gelding (PBA cross). Sadly "Henry" is no longer with us. CH Spellbound Reiver became our fourth Saddlebred to acheive championship status in 2009, owned by Donna-Marie Britton. He is a 93.75% partbred gelding.

Left: CH Celtic Champagne (Squaw Man x Chapagne & Lace), Middle: CH Appledore Miss Serenade (Sire: Roundhill's Hawaiian Harvest, dam non-Saddlebred, Appledore's No Revision); Right: Spellbound Reiver (Sire: Premier Color, Dam: Clearview Marginata).

CH Celtic Champagne, a UK Saddlebred, is currently the only horse outside of America and Canada to have earned an award in both of these divisions - having gained her Gold status in the Saddlebred Select Dressage and the Champion (over a number of years) in the Sport Horse Hunter and Dressage Divisions.

HI-POINT BOOKS
Each season runs from 1st October to 30th September the following year. Any equine registered with USA-UK is eligible to take part (including non-Saddlebreds issued with a USA-UK passport - these will have their own Hi-Point Awards and be able to work towards their championship status too). Just fill in the books (you may need to duplicate the information if you are going for more than one award) and return them with the appropriate fee to the Secretary by 10th October. It couldn’t be simpler, so hopefully you will all make an effort to take part in these awards and gain some points towards your horse’s Championship status. If you need any Hi-Point Books (one per horse please) then please send a SAE (A4, first class) to the Secretary, or email Lynnusauk@aol.com  for a copy or Click HERE. Don't forget to ask for a Happy Happers Log Book and/or a Promotional Log Book if you want to take part in either of these awards.

Happy Hackers Certificate has been awarded to CH Celtic Champagne for having ridden 100 hours (2006).

Promotional Scheme 2009 - Lynn Jarvis & CH Celtic Champagne
2007 & 2008 - Lynn Jarvis & CH Celtic Champagne.
2006 -  Paula Thomas & Sassy Lass Royale for their endeavours in promoting the breed.
This scheme is based on a points system - the wider your audience, the more points you earn!
